Probe after runaway car hurts four train tragedy firefighters

Rail chiefs have started an investigation after a vehicle driven by an employee injured firefighters responding to the Stonehaven train tragedy.

Four emergency workers needed medical attention after the Network Rail manager allegedly forgot to activate the handbrake in the powerful SUV.

Two of the victims were taken to hospital following the incident, which happened as they attended the derailment on August 12. Three people died in the tragedy.

Sources say two senior Network Rail construction managers traveling in the 4x4 were not asked to undergo alcohol or drug testing after the collision.

Network Rail have launched an internal probe and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) are also investigating.
