In a stark revelation, the World Bank's latest Global Economic Prospects report forewarns that the global economy is hurtling towards its weakest performance in half a decade, with projections pointing to the slowest growth in 30 years. Despite a diminished risk of a global recession, the report underscores the persisting threats posed by geopolitical tensions and a pessimistic medium-term outlook for many developing economies.
According to the report, global growth is anticipated to decelerate for the third consecutive year, plummeting from 2.6 percent in the previous year to a mere 2.4 percent in 2024. Developing economies, facing an even bleaker scenario, are expected to register a growth rate of just 3.9 percent-a significant drop of over one percentage point below the average of the previous decade.
