Last Thursday, 31,000 properties in Hastings and St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex, were left without water after a mains pipe burst. By yesterday afternoon, Southern Water said the water supply had been restored to 25,000 of the homes affected.
A total of 6,000 homes were expected to have their supply restored yesterday, but about 1,500 properties in parts of St Helen's and St Helen's Wood were "unlikely to see supply restored until [Tuesday] morning or lunchtime", according to Southern Water. The supplier said this was because these homes are normally served by the Fairlight reservoir, which is was not sufficiently stocked to meet the demand.
