Smriti blitz proves too strong for Australia

Opener Smriti Mandhana smashed a career best 83 to power India to a competitive 167 for eight and a 48run win against Australia in a Group B match of the ICC Women’s World Cup here on Saturday. The Aussies could manage only 119 in reply, handing India a comfortable victory.

The Indian bowlers — Anuja Patil (three for 15), Deepti Sharma (two for 24), Radha Yadav (two for 13), Poonam Yadav (two for 28) — shackled
the Australian lineup.

Earlier, Smriti blasted nine fours and three sixes in her 55ball 83run knock to anchor the Indian innings. She also became the second fastest Indian to compete 1000 runs in T20 internationals after Mithali Raj.
