New COVID-19 cases surged to 10,016 yesterday, the highest single-day tally logged since the start of the pandemic, data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.
Based on the DOH’s case bulletin, total cases reached 731,894, with 15.8 percent or 115,495 active cases. Positivity rate was pegged at 18 percent, way above the five percent recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
There were 16 deaths, raising the death toll to 13,186, while 78 patients recovered, bringing the number of recoveries to 603,213.
According to DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, the government is not ruling out the possibility of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) being extended past April 4, depending on the outcome of the weeklong lockdown imposed in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
“We are not closing our doors. This is not cast in stone. For now, officials are looking at this one week,” she said.
