Happy And Proud To Be An Inspiration To Girls: Fencer Bhavani Devi

It’s less than 100 days for the Tokyo Olympics, and CA Bhavani Devi is focusing on giving her best at the Games. Being the first fencer from India to qualify for the Olympics, Bhavani says that she is happy to have set an example for many girls to dream big.

Talking to us from Italy, where she has been undergoing training, Bhavani says, “I am happy and proud to be an inspiration to many girls. I am working very hard and I want to put up my best performance. And yes, I need a lot of support and blessings coming my way from India. ”

But the journey so far hasn’t been an easy one, she says. From pursuing a niche sport to handling funding issues, her journey comes across as one of grit and determination. “I didn’t want to quit the sport just because I didn’t have anyone to look up to. I just wanted to try my best and achieve my dream. And that kept me motivated. I was ready to work hard and my family was very supportive, ”says Bhavani, who will compete in the women’s individual sabre event in Tokyo.
