BMC ‘approves' land deal for Bhendi Bazaar project

Mumbai: In a major boost to Bhendi Bazaar redevelopment project, BMC cleared a proposal to swap land with Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT), which is undertaking the project. As part of the deal, BMC will hand over 24 plots within the redevelopment zone and will get two plots in return in Bhuleshwar and Mandi in South Mumbai.

The proposal was recently cleared by BMC’s improvements committee. SBUT will also pay BMC around Rs 14 crore for the plots. Improvement committee members visited the two sites offered for swapping by SBUT.

The project involves cluster redevelopment of 280 buildings spread across 16.5 acres, divided into nine subclusters in Bhendi Bazaar, in South Mumbai. The city’s largest cluster redevelopment project was announced in 2008 by the then Syedna of the Bohra community.
