The findings of the study, conducted by Covaxin developer Bharat Biotech and Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute of Virology, Pune, indicate that the booster shot of the vaccine is safe and may be necessary to ensure persistent immunity to prevent breakout infections. It was able to induce both memory B and T cells and led to a pronounced increase in T-cell responses.
With this, Covaxin has become the first vaccine in India to report safety and immunogenicity results from a booster clinical trial.
