THIS IS US
Even though our careers had us both living in London for a bit, my husband Arfeen and I met back home in India. He is a celebrity mental performance coach, and conducts various seminars across the globe. I knew of him and wanted to work with him. We worked together for a fair bit, but it was only when it was time for me to go back to London did we realise that we developed feelings for each other. After seven years of courting, we got married.
We did not plan to have children, and always maintained that we would ‘go with the flow’. A couple of years ago, we discovered we were pregnant with twins. Turns out, life had a different kind of plan in mind for us—it was an ectopic pregnancy, and I lost my babies. I remember the moment Arfeen and I saw each other in the hospital after I had miscarried—we both hugged each other and cried. It didn’t hit me when it happened, but the phase after, thinking about what could have been, was heartbreaking for me. My dad passed away a few months before this, so it was too much happening all at once.
Thankfully, Dhoond Legi Manzil Humein happened at that time, and was the best distraction I could ask for. I dived right into work and at the same time, I had to focus on my road to recovery. I was put on pills for hormonal balance, and had to go through five years of tests and treatments.
