WHAT IS MY RISK OF SUFFERING FROM COVID-19 IF I’M PREGNANT?

It is normal to assume that hanges to your immune system during pregnancy means that you are at a higher risk from infection than others. However, there is very little evidence that reiterates this. Research suggests that pregnant women are just as likely as the general population to be infected with the coronavirus. “Pregnant women do not appear to be more susceptible to the consequences of infection with COVID-19 than the general population. Pregnant women with concomitant medical illness could be more prone to infection and therefore, need to follow all the precautions strictly,” said Dr Shivani Chandan L, consultant, obstetrics and gynaecology, Aster RV Hospital.
