Why Your Cup Size Influences Breastfeeding

Your body is primed to produce milk as soon and as often as your baby needs it – before he even asks for it. Your milk supply is largely based on how much milk your baby drains from your breasts. The more frequently and effectively he drains them, the more milk you will produce. While your breast size doesn’t determine how much milk you will produce, it does indicate how much storage capacity you have. Your body regulates milk supply by gauging how full your breasts are, so this can affect how much milk you make. Your storage capacity also has implications for how often you’ll need to feed your baby, and how easy it will be for you to express your milk. Your breast size and shape can also influence how milk flows from your breast, which in turn impacts on how your baby feeds. But once you know what’s normal for your breast size, and how to make the most of your milk supply, breastfeeding will become easier and more enjoyable for both you and your baby.
