Hieronymus Grabstein – Monumentum
Lens Magazine|October 2021
Our brain is organized so that it analyses and memorizes visual information faster than any text. A spectator is always curious to see what is left outside the camera’s view. There is hardly a better way to tell stories of people’s lives other than via visual imagery. Handicraft– from the beginning and up to the end of each operation. It is not an automated process but significant experience, expertise, and a bit of spontaneity and freedom of artistic creativity.

My ongoing series of pieces first started in 2017, depicts contemporary Russian monumental artists in their workspaces. MONUMENTUM presents an inextricable connection between the artists and the space that surrounds them. With no claim to sophistication, the interiors of the studios contain a lot of details that might seem rather ordinary at first sight. But this is only at first sight. The photographs turned out to be full of life and filled with the magic of the creative process.

Once discovered his passion for photography in 2009, soon it became clear he was eager to turn it into a real profession. Years of working in production design pushed further and shaped his language of visual storytelling.

From a Living Hell to Heaven on Earth: the Inhumanity and Humanity of Humans

In a remote area of western Wisconsin, dogs and cats who otherwise would have ended up on death row are given a reprieve. They can now live out their lives in peace and comfort and with companionship at Home for Life (HFL), which was not afforded them outside the sanctuary's gates.
