‘It's Whatever It Takes To Win'

Q: Levi Wallace, we’ve talked about the last few weeks. After you’ve watched the film, what are your thoughts on how that’s going?

SM: Yeah, he’s learning on the job. He’s done some really good things. He’s obviously working through some things these past couple of weeks and I’m expecting him to continue to work through those things in a professional manner like he has to this point.

Q: Have you talked at all about giving Kevin Johnson a shot over there? Or maybe splitting the reps like you have with other positions?

SM: Yeah, we talk about a lot of things from week to week. We look at every position and try and put our best players out there.

Q: What’s the balance of people always asking from the outside to get Devin Singletary more involved, while consciously trying to have him get more involved because he’s a dynamic playmaker but not force-feed it where it isn’t necessarily what the defense is doing?

SM: It’s a blend. It’s a whatever it takes to win, that’s what we try and do. Whatever it takes to win. Understanding and trying to put our best players in positions of strength. You’ve heard that before and I know it sounds like a broken record but that’s what we believe in and that’s what we’ve got to do and continue to do. And in this case whether it’s Devin or any other player, continue to put our players in position to be successful.

Q: Are there ever some guys, I mean we heard going into last week’s game out of Cleveland, they wanted to forcefield Odell Beckham Jr. because they didn’t feel like he was getting enough opportunities. Are certain players that you will maybe push the issue a little bit more with, to make sure that they’re more involved than others?

Stefon Diggs had one of the best seasons ever by a Bills receiver in 2020, and he’s looking for an encore. Diggs was clearly amped up and ready to go as the Bills began their preparations for the new season, leading the huddle and supporting his teammates as they kicked off training camp in Orchard Park. Dak Prescott, Cowboys 6-2 • 235 pounds • 27 years old A solid starter who has a nice TD-INT ratio over his first five seasons (104-40), Prescott is an accurate thrower and very mobile. However, he’s coming off a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle, so it remains to be seen if this will impact his game moving forward.

Hunter Henry, Chargers 6-5 • 250 pounds • 29 years old A very talented player, Henry has had issues staying healthy, unable to complete an NFL season, including missing the entire 2018 season with a torn ACL. But when healthy, he’s a terrific all-around tight end who really connected with Justin Herbert in 2020 with 60 catches. Henry is very good at finding holes in zone coverage.
