OPPORTUNITIES can be fleeting in football, and Oliver Burke is determined to make the most of the one which lies before him now, having joined Celtic until the end of the season.

The highly-rated 21-year-old became Brendan Rodgers’ first signing of 2019 after agreeing a six-month loan deal from West Bromwich Albion.

Burke joined the Baggies in the summer of 2017 from RB Leipzig for a fee of £15million but the young winger’s playing time at the Hawthorns has been limited, making just 21 appearances in total.

He is now looking for the opportunity to showcase the talents which led him to become the most expensive Scottish signing ever, and said he’s excited about playing a part in bringing more silverware to Paradise.

“It’s a great feeling to join Celtic,” Burke told the Celtic View. “I’m very excited to be here and very happy. I can’t wait to hit the ground running, play as many games as I can and help the team as much as I can.

“Obviously winning trophies is massive in football, no matter where you are. But to do it here at Celtic, that’s amazing. It’s such a big club, and it would be an absolute pleasure for me to be part of that come the end of the season. I’m excited to see what happens!”

Burke has played predominantly on the right wing during his time at West Brom, but the Scotland internationalist has experience in an array of attacking positions, including striker and attacking midfielder.

James Forrest’s consistently impressive performances out on the right flank could see Brendan Rodgers deploy Burke in other areas of the pitch, but the new Bhoy insisted he is determined to try and impress the manager in whichever position he is selected.
