ICC's Unwarranted Actions Towards BCCI Reek Of Bias And Envy
In a surprising move, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently formed a three-person dispute panel over the BCCI and the PCB’s conflict over two unplayed bilateral series. In December 2016 the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had decided to take a legal route in pursuit of its resolution and has claimed up to $70million worth lost revenue from failure of the BCCI to play two series - in November 2014 and December 2015. However, because of the continuously deteriorating political situation between the two countries, the BCCI has refused to honor this agreement.
While the ICC had thus far stayed away from meddling in the affairs of the two boards this current stand has come as a surprise to many. In the past as well, the ICC has maintained a stoic distance from the inner squabbles of the BCCI and the PCB. And one can’t thus help but wonder what must have prompted this sudden change in action. Isn’t it rather strange that for close to one and half years, the ICC decided to stay away from this particular dispute between the two boards and then suddenly, for no apparent reason, decided to form a panel for resolving it?
