They call him ‘Ginge’, but don’t be fooled by a humorous fight name. Alex Amoroso could potentially be the next hottest talent to come out of Western Australia — and at only 19 years of age, he has already racked up 20 fights against solid opponents, including Thais with over 200 fights. Nothing fazes Amoroso — he will fight whoever is put in front of him, and because of his clean, tough and technical style, rises on every occasion.

Trainer Mark Selden has always been confident in Amoroso’s ability and he is not afraid to give him the hard fights. Because of this, he has developed his style quickly and only keeps improving, looking to challenge himself mentally and physically with every fight.

Amoroso has no desire to follow in the footsteps of a typical teenager and already has some solid plans for the future.

“For me, it’s a personal decision; some people want to go out and party and I’ve made the decision that I want to be, and need to be, a champion in the sport. I will definitely be back in Thailand soon and hopefully many more times in my fighting career for long training stints over there. A big goal of mine is to fight the Thais at Rajadamnern and Lumpinee Stadium on the big stages. Also, to get interstate as much as I can and on international shows like Max Muay Thai and Thai Fight. I want to be the best in the division and the overall goal in the long run is a world title — they are the achievements that everyone trains their whole careers for and only a few reach it.”

A day in the life of Alex…

Working in the electrical industry, I’m always starting work early in the morning, which limits my chances to get extra training sessions before work. Once I’ve finished work for the day, it’s straight to the gym. Every night I start my sessions with a run, skip and shadow boxing rounds, then sparring and pads, and always a long clinch. Mixing it up with strength and conditioning after the training sessions to push my fitness. I’m a firm believer of having a routine; it’s been the same routine for me with working and training for years now. Recovery is a huge part of it all as well to let my body repair itself with good food, and maintaining injuries with chiro or a muscle roller is key.
