Lights went out and the entire River Spirit Expo was blanketed in darkness, except for the colorful flashing laser beams bouncing off the ceiling like the Aurora Borealis.
Specators were jampacked into the brand-new metal grandstands like sardines. Over 3,000 BMX fanatics were literally sitting on the edge of their seats as they heard a familiar voice over the loud speakers. As the intro video for tonight’s show appeared on the big jumbotron screen that dangled from the ceiling, that voice was David Lee; the deep and gruff voice of AMA Supercross and action sport commercials, welcoming them to this spectacle. That voice alone will send shivers down anybody’s spine, as it means that some intense action is just about to go down. And that it did.
This was the 2016 Pro Championship Finals, and in the next two hours, every BMX fan in Tulsa - along with tens of thousands of viewers watching from home, would discover who would become our next National No.1 Pro Champions. Would it remain with the current point standings and be the same pros as last year? Or would we see a new No.1 Champion crowned? (Spoiler Alert: Each of the defending Pro Champs had a VERY comfortable points lead, and once they made it thru semi’s, their titles were pretty much secured.) But don’t let that spoil your expectations of some insane BMX racing, folks! These men and women came tonight to put on a show. And that they did.

GOLD CUP NORTH CENTRAL
If there is one good thing about this yearâs Covid closures of states and counties, it is that tracks that might not normally have gotten a shot at hosting a National or Gold Cup event, were now given that opportunity.

GOLD CUP SOUTHEAST
This year the DK Bicycles Gold Cup South East Finals were held at one of the fastest BMX tracks in Alabama - Circle City BMX, in Dothan. If trying to claim one of the coveted Gold Cup Plates brought you to Circle City BMX for your first time you might have been surprised when you first saw the track layout.
GOLD CUP SOUTHWEST
When you roll into the local Quiktrip and one of Tucsonâs finest looks at your shirt and asks if you know Corben Sharrah, you can only be in one city in America. Often coined as the loudest city in BMX, it doesnât matter if there is a single fan or a gaggle of Tucsonans, they know how to bring the energy.
GOLD CUP NORTHEAST
With all of the uncertainty in event planning this year, it was not a huge surprise that the DK Bicycles North East Gold Cup Finals shifted locations somewhat last minute. We were very lucky to have it and at a great location, Akron BMX in Akron, Ohio. The Big Red Truck was last here for the 2018 North East Gold Cup Finals, and the track is located in a pretty incredible location.
