Charlie McCann on the Epsom fillies.
John Gosden has a very strong hand in the three-year-old filly division and I was impressed with the Cheshire Oaks success of Enable on the Rood eye earlier in the month and will be disappointed if this daughter of Nathaniel doesn’t go very go close to giving her handler a second winner of the fillies’ Epsom classic.
The last Cheshire Oaks winner to follow up at Epsom was Light Shift for Ted Durcan and the late great Sir Henry Cecil a decade ago but I feel Enable (4/1 with BetVictor) has outstanding credentials for the Oak. The selection showed a fine turn of foot to readily dispose of Aidan O’Brien’s Alluringly at Chester and I am convinced that the runner up is a very good filly in her own right. The Ballydoyle representative was readily put in her place, however, and it should be noted that the runner up was backed as if defeat was out of the question on the Roodeye.
In an ideal world, one would wish Enable to settle a bit better than she has in both starts this term but it doesn’t stop her galloping all the way to the line and she looks to have the necessary speed and stamina required for a classic test.
