The Season of Discontent

Where did it all go wrong for the Redskins? Why did they collapse once more in a division that may set a historic low for overall wins?

The Season of Discontent

Was it when Jay Gruden was fired after an 0-5 start? Or when Reuben Foster crumbled onto the field just minutes into the first OTA? Jordan Reed suffering a season-ending concussion in August? When owner Dan Snyder overreached by drafting quarterback Dwayne Haskins over his staff’s objections? When president Bruce Allen botched Trent Williams’ holdout?

Not firing Gruden before the season to find a coach that wanted the new passer? Not firing Allen, whose decade-long reign has ruined the franchise?

The trail of tears is long and wide. The team is one of the NFL’s worst. Fans have abandoned FedEx Field with bargain hunters of $4 tickets nearly the only ones left to compete with visiting fans for booing the team. A recent Baltimore Ravens game nearly doubled local TV ratings versus the concurrent Redskins game.

It’s going to take a total teardown for the third time in Snyder’s 20 seasons. Sadly, it didn’t have to end this way.

If only quarterback Case Keenum played near his 2017 season form with Minnesota the offense might have worked. If Derrius Guice hadn’t hit injured reserve twice, including after the opener, maybe the running game would have had more pizzazz.
