Where the Crow flies…
Sporting Shooter|July 2020
With current shooting outings limited, Andy Crow has been thinking about all of those sporting trips he wants to book in when international travel is once again possible

Where the Crow flies…

When you have grown up in a world of liberty, infringement of those basic rights can force a fundamental reevaluation of what, exactly, is important. Family and friends, of course, top-most of our lists, but the inability to travel and to explore our wild world has set the Crowman off.

“It’s too easy to assume that you’ll always have the choice to get out and do the things that you want to do in lifetime and money permitting. But the truth is we can’t take it for granted – and it has made me think about those opportunities to travel and hunt that I dream about. When all this is over, I’ll be booking some adventures, that is for sure!

1. Rock pigeons and plains game stalking in South Africa

Visiting Africa many years ago left a lasting impression on me. The size of the landscapes are epic and the sheer range of shooting on offer makes it a dream destination for so many sportsmen and women.

I absolutely loved shooting the rock pigeons in South Africa. They are a challenging bird and will test the skills of even the most hardened British pigeon shooter.

Then there is the plains game: it’s like deer stalking on a grand scale! There is such variety. For me, I loved foot stalking in tough terrain and I have to admit I had a soft spot for the warthogs. Like all pigs, they are a cunning quarry and great fun to hunt.

2. Dove shooting in Argentina

For sheer volume of birds, I can’t imagine topping the dove shooting on offer in Argentina. I went a few years ago and it was an experience of a lifetime.
