One of the things that made the football card boom of the early 1990s so memorable was the fact that the Dallas Cowboys were on their way back to Super Bowl contention thanks to some shrewd deals and smart drafting. This created the perfect conditions for a pair of hobby superstars to emerge. First, it began at quarterback with Troy Aikman in 1989 and the following year, Emmitt Smith arrived on the scene. During this era, their rookie cards were among the hottest around and seemed to repeatedly spike in price whenever the Cowboys won a championship.

It was a great time to be a fan of the team ... and perhaps an even better time to be a collector. However, the same cannot be said for the 21st century as Dallas has only sporadically made playoff appearances and has not been to a Conference Final or the Super Bowl since they won it all in 1995.

However, there was a glimmer of hope that came just before the 2016 season started. While fans were shocked to hear that Tony Romo was to be put on the sidelines due to injury, they were also not sure what to think about the quarterback situation as Dak Prescott rose up the depth chart and proved to be a perfect addition to the lineup during exhibition games.
