Defenders and goalkeepers are being bought at a premium as clubs look to BOLSTER THEIR SQUADS AHEAD of the new season.
TRANSFER TALK
With the 2017-18 foot-ball season set to kickoff soon, managers have been poaching old and young talent to further bolster their squads. Here is a compilation of some of the top confirmed moves so far, largely dominated by defenders and goalkeepers.
Victor Lindelof: Benfica to Manchester United
The 22-year-old defender was signed by Manchester United for a reported fee of €35 million. The Swede — who will look to ease United’s defensive woes — has signed a four-year contract with the English side. The center back’s signing makes him United’s most expensive defender, his deal surpassing the €33m paid for Rio Ferdinand from Leeds United in 2002. Mourinho’s first signing of the summer is also eager to share free-kick duties with Paul Pogba. “I’m not sure but I’m quite good at them so if I get an opportunity to take a free-kick I think I’ll be there,” he told MUTV.
Mathew Ryan: Valencia to Brighton and Hove Albion
