In the absence of the out of favour Karim Benzema, France will depend solely on the Atletico Madrid striker to score important goals in Russia.
The double disappointment of losing two finals within two months in 2016 was finally over when Antoine Griezmann scored a brace in the Europa League final for Atletico de Madrid against Marseille in 2018. The 27yearold French striker will go to his second World Cup with renewed confidence of finding the net often. In the absence of the outof favour Karim Benzema, France will depend solely on him to score important goals in Russia.
You must be a happy man to go to Russia having won the Europa League trophy for your club Atletico de Madrid...
Really, a big relief. At last I had my hands on a European trophy! 2016 was a big disappointment for me. First, we lost the Champions League final. Then finished on the other side again to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in the Euro 2016 final. That we were the hosts in 2016 made it more painful. But those two defeats made me stronger.
Those two goals in the final were a reflection of how eager you were…
I was so determined to win one. Thanks to my teammates at Atletico, we won it. Without them, nothing would have been possible. At Atletico, we prefer to play a team game without depending on any individual. Whether we win or lose, it’s always the team.
