A dam Zampa, Peter Siddle and Rashid Khan have all put pen to paper this week on deals at counties, with the Australian pair joining Essex and Afghan spin sensation Rashid teaming up with Jason Gillespie again at Hove.
There is no doubting that these are all brilliant signings, and they’ll probably take a load of wickets, but they’re all going to be on these shores for a short period of time. It goes to show how much the world has changed, let alone cricket.
Go back a few decades and your overseas star was just that – a star and they’d stay here for a while too. Look at Malcolm Marshall, he was tearing up trees for Hampshire for over 13 years in the 1980s, and made the south coast his home from home. Wasim Akram did the same at Old Trafford and Richard Hadlee made Trent Bridge his safe haven.
