HILTON Cartwright picked up his first Test appearances for Australia last year and hopes his spell at Middlesex will fire him into Ashes contention.
The 26-year-old collected his first Baggy Green cap against Pakistan in January 2017 but hasn’t featured since September against Bangladesh, where he made just 18 runs.
But following his move to Middlesex on an initial five game contract, Cartwright hopes proving himself against the Duke ball could put him in a future Ashes tour of England.
He said: “I think my long-term goals are to get back into the Australia side. Having some exposure out here and hopefully develop my plans to be in the Ashes squad in three or four years’ time.
“That’s my plan and I want to get exposure over here and get that experience and hopefully I can make some runs.
“By getting runs in the UK that will certainly put my name forward, of course it’s important to get runs in Australia too but having the runs in this country with hopefully make the difference.”
