Daunting December

Listen, it was a nice little run while it lasted. The Giants provided November thrills and took the division lead into December. Happy Holidays! Now we would be best to prepare for one final dip in a COVID-marked calendar year defined by unpredictable bar graphs.

Because these Giants, despite sniffing out a division title, face enormous obstacles in their final four games.

Not saying that the Giants can’t wind up being tops among this desperate four-team grouping known as the NFC East.

Of course they can win it. Anything is possible with this crew, and things are especially plausible when COVID cases can alter the competitive balance at the drop of a hat or, shall we say, at the drop of a mask.

What I’m saying is that the Giants have two troubling problems that make them as much of an underdog as their division peers. And because of those two glaring issues — the health of Daniel Jones and an imposing four-game schedule — maybe it’s appropriate that fans brace for the worst at the very moment they are feeling their seasonal best.

The Giants have shown us enough positives to get the blood pumping for 2021. (After all, who the hell isn’t looking forward to a new year these days?) Only a complete collapse — say, losing all four games — would carry a discouraging signal entering 2021. Just about anything else should give Giants fans a special optimism this offseason.
