Merry Christmas, Logan Ryan
New Jersey native Logan Ryan signed a three-year extension on Christmas morning worth $31 million ($20 million guaranteed). The contract includes $10 million at signing and $22 million in the first year.
It was a no brainer.
Ryan gambled on himself in the offseason asking for $10 million a year in free agency but didn’t sign with the Giants until just before the season began.
Ryan was patient as he believed in his skills and waited for the right fit.
“I knew my skillset,” Ryan said. “Yes, the free agency process went longer than I thought, but it all worked out. Now look at me.”
Look is right.
Ryan, 29, had a prior relationship with coach Joe Judge from New England and quickly established himself as a team leader even with high-priced players like James Bradberry and Leonard Williams on his side of the ball.
“Logan is a guy you listen to,” safety Jabrill Peppers said. “He’s done it all in this league. He’s won Super Bowls and has seen it all. He’s a guy who cares about the guy next to him and truly cares about the team. I’m so happy for him.”
Asked recently if he was interested in re-signing, Ryan couldn’t be more definitive, quickly saying, “Without question. I’m Jersey made. It’s been a blessing for me to be here. A lot of things had to happen for me personally, in free agency for this situation to come up. I feel like I’m in the right place at the right time.”
The versatile Ryan is a coach’s dream. He plays safety, the slot, and outside corner if needed. He is an effective blitzing safety from the slot and is always around the ball.
