ROUND ONE

Who said Dave Gettleman is incapable of not only trading down but also providing yet another weapon for his franchise quarterback? Well, not that we used the word “incapable”, but rather we assumed it would be “unlikely.”

After trading with the Chicago Bears to move back to the 20th spot in the draft (while acquiring Chicago’s first and fourth rounders in the 2022 draft as well as a fifth this year – which was subsequently traded to move up in the third-round), our New York Football Giants selected wide receiver Kadarius Toney (6’0”, 193 lbs.) from the University of Florida.

After three nondescript seasons in Gainesville due to off-the-field and injury issues, Toney’s stats exploded in 2020, garnering First Team All-SEC honors, as he finished with 70 receptions for 984 yards and 10 TDs with another 161 yards on the ground and one rushing touchdown. He was also three-for-six passing for 82 yards with a TD pass in his college career. Toney, who was officially timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.39 on his pro day, is also adept in the return game as he had 11 punt returns for 139 yards (12.6-yard average) in 2020 along with seven kickoff returns for 155 yards (22.1-yard average).

Obviously, Toney’s versatility and playmaking ability were major factors in the Giants’ drafting him, but Giants head coach Joe Judge was quick to point out that the coaching staff would find the right role for him and put him in the best possible position for offensive success.
