Offensive linemen usually do not show up in football’s box scores. But their hard work allows their teammates to etch their names on the stat sheet for all of eternity.
The New York Giants, entering what looks to be their most promising year since 2012, will depend on their “Monsters of MetLife” to kickstart their offense. It’s an offense that should be capable of so much more than its performance last season, when it ranked 25th in the league in yards per game and failed to crack 20 points for the final six games of the season.
Everyone is well-aware of the criticism the Oline has faced. Guard Justin Pugh even acknowledged it when speaking with reporters at minicamp. In his words, however, he expressed a desire to change the narrative in a season that could really produce something special for the Giants.
“I think we know (about the criticism). I think that’s been a theme in every season that I’ve been here,” Pugh said. “We added some pieces to the offense that will help aid the offensive line so that’s exciting. I’m excited about this group. We got a bunch of guys that are willing to work hard and (offensive line coach Mike Solari) is getting everybody right, so it’s going to be better. We’re definitely going to see an improvement.”
