2016

There was a touch of revenge in the north London air when Fiorentina arrived in N17 for the second leg of our Europa League clash five years ago tomorrow.

The Serie A side had knocked us out at the Last 32 stage the previous season after holding us to a 1-1 draw on home soil before beating us 2-0 in Florence.

This time around, we played the first leg in Italy and put ourselves in control of the tie with a 1-1 draw thanks to Nacer Chadli’s goal.

And we made no mistake at the Lane. Despite being without Harry Kane, who had broken his nose in our FA Cup defeat to Crystal Palace a few days earlier, we rattled in three goals without reply to ease into the Round of 16.

Dele Alli set up Ryan Mason to open the scoring in the 25th minute while Erik Lamela blasted home the rebound from Chadli’s initial effort to double our lead midway through the second half. La Viola’s misery was complete when their captain Gonzalo Rodriguez put through his own net with nine minutes left.

We went out to Borussia Dortmund in the next round.

2014

Dnipro 1 (Zozulya)

We needed a superb second-half fightback to overcome Ukrainian outfit Dnipro at this stage of the competition in 2014.

Having won all of our previous eight matches in the Europa League, including a two-legged play-off against Dinamo Tbilisi, we lost by a single goal in the first leg of this Last 32 clash with Dnipro which meant there was work to do back at the Lane.
