Upon arriving at the studio for Speed’s cover shoot, Pia Wurtzbach immediately settled down on the makeup chair to prepare for the next few hours of changing layouts and posing for the camera. She sat comfortably, conversing quietly with the team while her hair, makeup, and nails were being done.
A few hours before the shoot, Pia was at her doctor’s to have the cast on her pinky removed. According to her, she injured herself while boxing almost four weeks ago. “It was actually my fault,” started Pia sheepishly, “I feel bad telling people about it because it was my mistake. I wasn’t wearing any wraps and I was alone. And I’m not properly trained.” Well, all’s well that ends well, they say. The cast was removed just in time for our shoot. Talk about good timing!
It’s been two years since we last talked to Pia (she last appeared on our September 2017 cover). But it feels like only yesterday, as Pia put it during our interview. A lot of things may have changed but for Pia, it’s still the same. She’s thankful that work continues to come in—endorsements, TV shows, movies, and other exciting opportunities. In fact, her schedule is so hectic that she just flew in from Bangkok the day before and was scheduled to fly to Davao right after the shoot.
As tiring as all of that may be, Pia still shows an inordinate amount of passion for her work. You can see it in every masterful pose and expression she gives for the camera and the photographer. It shows when she asks her manager and assistant about the details of her next commitment, wanting to make sure that everything is in order and executed flawlessly.
But that’s not all that Pia is passionate about. In our interview with her, we learned how she applies the same drive in other aspects of her life—work, of course, but also her advocacies, her skills, her dreams, and so much more. These are just some of them:
