What is a warranty?

A warranty is a written guarantee, issued to the purchaser of a caravan, motorhome or trailer tent by the manufacturer, promising to repair or replace certain items within the stipulated warranty period. Some warranties will have exclusions such as wear and tear items like brake pads and there can also be exclusions if user abuse is detected. Taking an on-road caravan into extreme off-road conditions can result in the repudiation of warranty claims if the damage is deemed to be caused by those conditions. It is always important to read the warranty document (as boring as these documents can be) to know exactly where you stand in terms of claims that are made with the dealer or manufacturer. Claims are usually undertaken at the dealer level and they will escalate the problem to the manufacturer level if necessary. Warranties cover a wide range of mechanical breakage that is deemed to be an inherent fault that was derived in the build process, as well as the failure of parts due to structural imperfections.
