For the past few days my husband has been a little cranky.
He has been assigned a project at work that takes up most of his day and when he comes back, all he wants to do is nurse a drink or two and then hit the sack. When I try to wake him up for work the following morning, he grunts and looks back at me with frustration. He shouldn’t be angry at me, but I understand that it is neither his fault nor mine. “I’m sorry, I truly am. Tomorrow will be different”, he says and rushes off to work as he leaves half of his uneaten breakfast. But these sorrys seemed less real with each passing day. I realised that I needed to do something to remedy this - I needed a quick fix.
Being a morning person or an early riser is definitely not everybody’s cup of tea. Most of us would rather stay in bed for those heavenly extra 10 minutes before our alarm clocks start blaring that annoying noise out again. Many people associate waking up early to that dreadful feeling of having to leave the comfort of their warm, cozy beds. After months of sleeping in your bed, the bed too responds by creating dents and arches to accommodate your body. The fact of the matter is – no one likes to be woken up. Sleeping is a wonderful activity. One dozes off to a dreamland, a world of fantasy that sometimes you can control through lucid dreaming. Sleeping helps in reducing calories too – every hour that you spend sleeping helps you shed 90 calories. So, is it okay if we convince ourselves that the more we sleep, the fitter we get? Well, maybe not.
