Do you fret about not being able to successfully grow anything? Well, microgreens are just about the easiest things to grow and Gitanjali Rajamani, founder and CEO, GreenMyLife, shows you the ropes.
They say gardening teaches you patience because plants take time and care to grow, fruit and prosper. As for the eternally impatient ones amongst us, there are the microgreens. Yes, the same microgreens that you find at fancy restaurants with gourmet meals, cost a bomb at supermarkets. However, growing them at home is easy and inexpensive. Let’s find out more!
so, what are microgreens really?
Microgreens are power-packed, tiny versions of the many greens and vegetables that we eat. Not only are they comparable to fully grown plants in terms of vitamins, minerals and overall nutritional value, but they also exceed them in many cases. Essentially, microgreens are edible immature plants of many varieties that are harvested once the first two true leaves appear. They are less than a couple of inches tall and have just the stalk and leaves visible. In fact, they are often confused with sprouts, even though they are very diff erent from them. Sprouts are seeds that have been germinated mostly in the dark. Once these seeds germinate, the roots, seeds and shoots are consumed. On the other hand, microgreens are allowed to grow until the first true leaves appear and only the stem and leaves are eaten.
