The winner of India’s ultimate hairstyling challenge TIGI Backstage Heroes 2, Mohammad Amjad of Salon 11, Jalandhar, shares quick details about his winning creation and hair inspiration.

Describe your hairstyling creation at the Backstage Heroes challenge.

As a test of our creativity and hairdressing ability, we were given the theme ‘Street Dance’ to create the look for the finale event. I used the model’s hair to create space buns as headphones and also a front fringe styled into a cap. For the back, I created multiple braids, something seen in street styles globally. I’m glad that the judges appreciated my creation.

What inspired you to be a part of this challenge?

Coming from small towns, we don’t have much exposure to resources or latest global trends. It is only through platforms such as the TIGI Backstage Heroes that we get an opportunity to learn and hone our hairdressing skills. It is a unique event that helps discover hairdressing talent in the country and give it a global platform. As a part of the competition, contestants get training and guidance from the best in the industry—right from the series of rounds leading to the grand finale.
