At first glance, the Instagram picture of Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow looking impossibly healthy and happy with her arm draped around a gorgeous friend looks fairly standard. But this is a friend with a difference – Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson is her exhusband’s girlfriend.

Dakota has been dating Chris Martin since October 2017 and rumours swirled that Gwyneth disapproved. “For the first year of Dakota’s relationship with Chris, it was tricky between the two women,” says a source. “There’s bound to be a wariness between a mother and a new person entering their family. Gwyneth wanted to be sure that Dakota was the right fit.”

But Gwyneth (46) and Chris (42) – who are parents to Apple (14) and Moses (13) – are famously close, and friends say the actress has worked hard to build a friendship with Dakota.
