It was a Sunday evening like any other at home, as my husband Karl, 71, and I settled on the settee for a couple of hours of relaxation before bed. Our Jack Russell dogs, Penny and Tess, lay snoozing by our feet.

As the numbers appeared, I couldn’t help smiling. As always, I was shouting for the ones I needed. Karl was amused and was used to my enthusiasm as I played.
