ONE AND DONE
Catching sight of Mickey Mouse, I felt a flush of happiness as my precious little boy squealed in delight and raced towards the famous Disney character.

‘Mummy, it’s really him,’ James, then three, cried as he wrapped his arms around Mickey’s waist and hugged him. It was May 2018, and with the gentle Florida sunshine warming my face, I couldn’t tear my eyes from the joy on my little boy’s face. James was starting school in September and my husband Matt, then 47, and I had wanted to give him a brilliant holiday before his first day. That’s why we had splashed out on a fortnight’s trip to Disney World and had even splurged on premium economy seats so we could travel in style.

Some might say buying expensive airline tickets for a child is over the top, but for Matt and I, it is one of the perks of only having one child.
