When we found ourselves in the South of Spain with Morocco just 30km across the water, we took the chance to have a quick look.

1 How to get there

We caught the “fast” ferry from the lovely Spanish town of Tarifa – definitely worth a look/lunch on the way. Two different companies run regular crossings to Tangier and while it takes only 35 minutes to make the journey, there’s at least twice that amount of time taken up faffing around at the departure end. Upon arrival in Morocco, the Ginger and I attracted the requisite cling-on boy who insisted on helping us find our hotel, even though we had a map and knew where we were going. A stronger person would have told him to bugger off, but I quite liked the plucky kid, so gave him $8 instead.
