For most of the people gathered in the private salon of a London pub one-night last month, it was a seemingly run-of-the-mill occasion. A group of school-run mums had organized a parents’ meet-up and as people mixed and mingled, the wine flowed and the room buzzed with friendly chit-chat.
But the $12,000 a term school their children attend – Thomas’s Battersea – is no everyday establishment. Among the dozens of well-heeled youngsters who pass through its gates every morning is Prince George, six, heir to the British throne, and his little sister Princess Charlotte, four.
And being the kind of mum who likes to be fully involved in her children’s education, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge wasn’t going to miss out on the chance to rub shoulders with the parents of her kids’ school friends.
Using a secret door that was reportedly first installed in the Chelsea pub for Prince Harry during his wild bachelor days, the future Queen of England slipped virtually unnoticed into the gathering and – not unlike her once famously hard-partying brother-in-law – she proceeded to let her hair down!
“Kate really let loose,” a well-placed source claims. “She downed several glasses of wine and the more she quaffed, the more loose-lipped she became!”
Royal circles have been abuzz in recent weeks with news that Kate and her future king husband Prince William, both 37, are at their wits’ end over their fraught relationship with Prince Harry, 35, and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, 38.
