There seemed to be no limit to her young niece’s imagination – for which Faye was eternally grateful

Dreams Can Come True

I am very fortunate to have a gorgeous, golden-haired niece called Daisy, who I love to bits.

She has such a lively imagination!

I hope it isn’t conceited to say that I think she gets it from me.

I am writer, you see. I’ve had a couple of books published, though slushy romances rather than literary masterpieces, I must admit.

Mind you, what’s wrong with that?

So many women love to indulge in a few hours of dreaming about their perfect man and I provide their fantasy in the written form.

I’m not exactly famous, though. I haven’t won any awards or prizes. Not yet, anyway.

But back to my niece.

She is simply adorable. She is seven years old with such clear blue eyes and pink cheeks, you can’t help but fall in love with her.

She reminds me of a colourful rainbow. One day, she is a brilliant red, and then sunshine yellow and occasionally, but only very occasionally, serene blue. She dances around like a ballerina and her energy is contagious.

Daisy is also a phenomenal chatterbox. Did I know they’d discovered a new species of dinosaur? Did I realise we are made out of the same stuff as stars? Had I ever climbed the highest mountain and got closer to the sun?

I was already close to the sun when I was with her.

My sister Ellen is quite a bit older than me. Fifteen years to be exact. I think Daisy sees me as her big sister, in a way, as well as her auntie, which is perhaps understandable as she is an only child.
