THE firestorm over Charlotte Dujardinâs suspension is a âmassive wake-up callâ for everyone in horse sport.
The double Olympic champion put out a statement on 23 July to say she was withdrawing from the Olympic team, and all competition, after a video emerged of her using a lunge whip while coaching a horse and rider.
Charlotte said she was âdeeply ashamedâ and âsincerely sorry for my actionsâ, which she described as an âerror of judgementâ.
That evening, the FEI provisionally suspended Charlotte over the video, which shows âconduct contrary to the principles of horse welfareâ. British Equestrian (BEF) has mirrored the suspension, so she may not participate in national or international events.
The FEI said the video was âallegedly taken several years ago during a training sessionâ.

Rider Denies Doping After Team Loses Olympic Placing - Tine Magnus and the Belgian team said they do not know the source of the drug that caused the positive test
Olympic eventer Tine Magnus has denied ever doping after her Paris ride Dia Van Het Lichterveld Z gave a positive test at the Games. This means the Belgian team, which came fourth, has been disqualified. On 4 September, the FEI said the 10-year-old mare, owned by Kris van Vaerenbergh, tested positive for trazodone, which is listed as an antidepressant on the FEI's prohibited substances list.
