McLean goes for grands prix glory

 A young rider squad member warms up for the Europeans with a grand prix double, and a "well-oiled wheel" keeps on winning

SCOTTISH young rider Sandy McLean is in the form of his life this year, but he surpassed even his own high bar by winning two grands prix and finishing a narrow second in a third at South View’s four-day show.

“It was a good weekend – I was a bit unlucky at the start, but by the end we found our stride,” said Sandy, who was using the show as a warm-up for him and the 12-year-old Gino, by Ultimo II, for the European Championships this week.

His big win came with his championship ride Gino F in the British Masters grand prix where, from last draw in a six-way jump-off, he smashed the leading time set by Paul Barker and Green Grass.
