In every region of the planet where it grows, yarrow has acquired a legendary reputation through myth and tradition. It is remarkable how the Kashmiri have come to form ties with yarrow that are very similar to those they have with most herbs.

According to legend, the Greek hero, Achilles' mother instilled him with yarrow while she tightly gripped his heels, leaving him with his one vulnerability— which, as we all know, were his heels. Achillea millefolium, the Latin name for yarrow, pays a modest tribute to Achilles in this legend.
