Local caravan and 4x4 accessory manufacturers were in top form at the annual Caravan Show at Gallagher Estate in Midrand. Most manufacturers use the show as a platform to unveil their latest models and it was great to see some new faces in the mix.
This year, more than 30 caravan manufacturers showcased their products and we feature 29 of them on the following pages. This time, we're casting the net wider than just caravans, including all sorts of equipment and 4x4 accessories â a fitting way to celebrate the show's coming of age.
OKTO
Okto is well known for its road caravans as well as its ever-popular Gravellor dirt-road caravans. The manufacturer, which has been building caravans for just over six years, has now expanded its range and showcased the Wasp â a lightweight off-road caravan for two, offering ample packing space.
The cupboards are extra deep, with space for a microwave. By the door, thereâs a shoe cupboard with a tilting door and next to it, a standard 7 000 BTU air conditioner. On the opposite side, a second door leads to the outdoor shower. The queen-size bed is built across the nose of the caravan.
The Wasp comes with a 75 â water tank, a gas-electric geyser and a DC-DC charger. Itâs solar-ready, with the power panel located on the left-hand door. This panel features buttons for the lights, USB sockets, the water pump and the fridge-freezer. Below that, thereâs a screen displaying voltage readings, current, power and energy consumption (in Wh). Further down, youâll find the water level meter. A groundsheet, awning and travel blanket are also included as standard.
The body consists of an inner and outer aluminium layer with a polystyrene core that is vacuum bonded. The panels are 32 mm thick, while the floor is 40 mm.
Its estimated GVM is 1 600 kg, with a tare weight of 1 200 kg and it is fitted with 15-inch alloy wheels.
