TRIVIA
The story of the Vijai scooter starts much earlier than its launch in 1972. Automobile Products India (API) collaborated with Italian enterprise Innocenti to make scooters, under the Lambretta name. The Vijai Super you see here was an evolution of the Lambretta. It is said the name Vijai, literally translating to ‘Victory’ was inspired by the Indian victory over Pakistan in 1971. It reached peak popularity in the late 70s and throughout the 80s, fending off advances from Bajaj Chetak and Priya. A testament to the popularity of the Vijai Super was that the 1983 cricket world cup winning Indian team were all gifted Vijai Supers!
