The World Car Awards (WCA) is an esteemed annual event held in New York, which celebrates the best in the world of automobiles across various categories. The winners are chosen by a jury of over 100 distinguished automotive journalists from 29 countries. On the last day of January, WCA announced the top ten finalists for the World Car of the Year (WCOTY) Award, along with the top five finalists in each of the five other categories.
Amongst the 10 finalists, three pure electric vehicles emerged as contenders for the WCOTY title at the highly anticipated countdown, hosted at the New York Motor Show on March 27.
The jurors, including Dhruv Behl, Editor of autoX, meticulously tested 70 new cars, ultimately determining the winners through a ballot based on their evaluation of each eligible vehicle. According to the criteria of the World Car Awards, to qualify for the top award, a vehicle must have an annual production run of at least 10,000 units. Additionally, it must be priced below the luxury-car level in primary markets and be available for sale in at least two major markets – China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, and the USA – between January 1, 2023, to March 30, 2024, this year.
