Scientific data indicates that due to climate change, the local fire season has been pushed out by almost 90 days.

Wet weather delays North West fire season

The fire season in North West could run until the end of November after wet weather experienced across the province earlier this year delayed the onset of wildfires.

This was according to Erich Stoch, chairperson of the North West Umbrella Fire Protection Association.

This was also the reason why landowners were still allowed to undertake pre-burning and make firebreaks in conditions where the fire burning index was favourable, Stoch told Farmer’s Weekly.
