WHEN diver and photog Jim Abernethy gets up close and personal with his best gal Emma, most folks cringe interror — because his favorite beauty is a razor-toothed, 15-foot tiger shark!
Abernethy runs tours at Grand Bahama island 55 miles off the south Florida coast and has befriended the toothy lady over two decades, earning her gratitude by removing four hooks from her jaws.
Now, Emma’s like a big, fishy pooch who loves to be petted, follows hand signals and has appeared in 14 documentaries.
“The affection is hands-on, rubbing her head, and I usually use a hand signal, which is rubbing my thumb to my fingertips and the shark swims directly towards me,” he says.
