The singer chose a particularly significant date to file divorce papers: 20 August, which marked the second anniversary of the couple’s traditional wedding in Georgia.
They had married in Las Vegas the month before, but celebrated with family and friends in a lavish, Old Hollywood-themed ceremony at Ben’s 87-acre estate outside Savannah.
The bride wore three different Ralph Lauren gowns and Ben’s friend and frequent collaborator Matt Damon was among the guests.
According to reports, the singer filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, listing 26 April as the date of separation. It is thought that the pair had not made a prenuptial agreement.
It brings to an end a love story that caught the public’s imagination, delighted their legions of fans and brought together two powerhouses in the entertainment industry – a multi-talented singer, actress and businesswoman and an Academy Award-winning actor and director.
